PDE-5-Hemmer: The most important active ingredient class against erection
PDE-5-inhibitors (phosphodiesterase-5-inhibitors) have been the gold standard for over 25 years in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The first representative, Sildenafil, came to the market as Viagra in 1998 and fundamentally revolutionized the therapy of erectional stimuli.
In the meantime, four approved active ingredients are available: Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Vardenafil and Avanafil. They all act according to the same basic principle, but differ in important details such as impact, duration of action, side effects profile and price.
The choice of the appropriate Praeparate depends on individual weather. Some men prefer a fast, short effect for spontaneous situations, others make a lesser period of action for more flexibility. A special advice helps to find the optimal drug.
Sildenafil (Viagra): The classic
Sildenafil is the best known PDE-5 inhibitor and has been available as a cost-effective generic since 2013. The original Praeparat Viagra of Pfizer continues to exist, but the generics offer the same active ingredient at significantly lower prices.
Entry into effect: 30 to 60 minutes after taking. A high-fat meal can reduce the impact.
Duration of action: 4 to 6 hours. Within this time window, erections are possible in sexual stimulation.
Dosage: 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. The usual starting dose is 50 mg and can be adjusted depending on the effect and reliability.
Costs: Generika from about 2 to 5 euros per tablet, the original Praeparat significantly more expensive. As the statutory health insurance PDE-5-Hemmer does not reimburse, patients bear the costs themselves.
Tadalafil (Cialis): The weekend pill
Tadalafil differs from all other PDE-5 inhibitors due to its particularly long duration of action. It is also available as a generic since the patent procedure of Cialis.
Entry into effect: 30 to 60 minutes, in some patients already after 15 minutes. The effect is less influenced by food intake than in Sildenafil.
Duration of action: Up to 36 hours. This long working time results in a larger time window and more spontaneity, which is why tadalafil is often referred to as a weekend pill.
Characteristics Permanent therapy: Tadalafil 5 mg can also be taken correctly to produce a permanent readiness for action. This is particularly suitable for men who are regularly sexually active. In addition, Tadalafil 5 mg is also used with a good prostate reduction.
Costs: Generika from about 3 to 6 euros per tablet if needed. The pale 5-mg dose is more guenstigerent per tablet, but is summed up by the tasty intake.
