What is finasteride 1 mg?
Finasteride 1 mg is the standard dose for treating inherited hair loss (androgenic alopecia) in men. It is the active ingredient of the original preparation Propecia and available as a generic by many manufacturers.
Unlike minoxidil, finasteride acts from the inside: it inhibits the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT – the hormone that damages the hair follicles.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Finasterid 1 mg
Finasteride inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase type 2:
- Reduction of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in blood approx. 70%
- DHT is responsible for miniaturizing hair follicles
- Less DHT = less hair loss + possible new growth
Who is it suitable for?
- Men with starting to advanced inherited hair loss
- Especially effective in secret board corners and tons
- Most effective at early treatment start
Available Dosages
- 1 mg daily (only allowed dose for hair loss)
- One tablet per day
- Not divisible (5 mg tablets for BPH are NOT intended for division)
How to Take
A tablet daily, regardless of meals, always at the same time.
Contraindications
- Women (especially pregnant women – danger for male fetuses!)
- Children and youth
- Heavy liver disease
- Known hypersensitivity
Possible Side Effects
Selten (1-10%):
- Reduced libido
- Erectile dysfunction
- Reduced sperm quantity
Very rare:
- Depressive detunement
- Gynecomastia (breast enlargement)
- Post-Finasterid Syndrome (controversy)
Most of the side effects are re-set.
