What is Nystalocal?
Nystalocal® is a combination preparation which contains the antimycotic active substance Nystatin, frequently in combination with other constituents such as zinc oxide (healing) and chlorhexidine (antiseptic). It is used for the local treatment of candida infections of the skin, skin folds and in the diaper area.
Nystatin is one of the oldest antimycotics and acts exclusively locally (not absorbed by the body). It is particularly suitable for superficial fungal infections and has a very good safety profile.
Active Ingredients & Mechanism of Action
Active ingredient: Nystatin (+ ggf. Zinkoxid, Chlorhexidin)
Active mechanism Nystatin:
- Ties to Ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane
- Images pores in the membrane
- The fungal cell loses vital components and dies
- Fungicidal action
Additive ingredients (depending on preparation):
- zinc oxide: Protects and dries skin, promotes wound healing
- chlorohexidine: Antiseptic, acts against bacterial accompanying infections
Special features:
- No systemic absorption → no systemic side effects
- No resistance development known at Candida albicans
- Also applicable in pregnancy and breastfeeding (local)
Who is it suitable for?
Nystalocal® is suitable for:
- Candida infections of skin and skin folds (intertrigines)
- Diapermatitis with Candida attack
- Perianale/perigenitale Candidose
- For accompanying local therapy in vulvovaginal candidose
Advantages:
- Very safe side effect profile
- No systemic load
- Also for infants, pregnant and breastfeeding
Not suitable:
- Systemic fungal infections (Nystatin only acts locally)
- Dermatophytoses (Nystatin does not work against dermatophytes)
Available Dosages
Application:
- apply thinly to affected areas of the skin 2–4 times a day
- Treatment duration: 7–14 days
- Continue therapy a few days after the symptoms have decayed
For diaper dermatitis:
- Apply to every diaper change
- Keep wound area clean and dry
How to Take
Application: 1. Clean and dry skin area affected Two. Apply Nystalocal® thin 3. Easily rub or leave as a protective layer 4. Wash hands
Important notes:
- Do not apply to open, wet wounds over a large area
- In case of non-improving after 1 week: visit doctor
- Keep skin folds dry
- wearing cotton underwear
Contraindications
**Nystalocal® must not be used at:* *
- hypersensitivity to Nystatin or other components
Preview at:
- Large, wet skin (depending on formulation)
- Eye area (not in the eyes)
pregnant and breastfeeding: Nystatin is not recorded systemically and can be applied locally in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Possible Side Effects
Very rare:
- Local skin irritation
- Allergic contact reaction (extremely rare)
General: Nystatin local is one of the most compatible antimycotics. Systemic side effects do not occur as the active substance is not absorbed into the blood.
